Homophobic organizations such as OMM/AFA only give many youth a more negative image of Christianity. Reference: The Family Lives of Lesbians and Gay Men Representative national surveys conducted during the past 30 years show that Americans' attitudes about homosexuality have become more tolerant (see review by Loftus, 2001). The family relationships of lesbians and gay men cannot be understood without recognizing the social climate of sexual prejudice in U.S. In general, the younger generation of Americans is more accepting of gays. They've also targeted MacDonalds, American Girl Dolls, Ford Motor Company, Disney, etc. The AFA has also targeted the Home Depot as well as Gap, Old Navy, and the Banana Republic. They have a long history of conducting boycotts against major companies, usually because they think those companies are too friendly to gays, with little success. Given One Million Moms/American Family Association track record with boycotts, their condemnation is likely more likely to help sales than hurt them, e.g., see Homophobic ‘Protest’ from One Million Moms Actually Boosting JC Penney’s Reputation. They read about him because he gets shit on everyday and still feels it's his responsibility to protect people because of his great power.
No one cares that Spider-Man swings on webs and climbs on walls. They read about him because he's this guy with an incredibly troubled past and is just looking for peace in this world that hates him. No one cares that Wolverine can heal and has claws that come out of his hands. People don't read comic books to see "good guy beats bad guy." They read them because of the characters and their emotions, struggles, and hardships. Sounds like a group of people in today's society, right? A group of extraordinarily gifted people that just want to live among others but are persecuted, tortured, killed, and treated as second class citizens because of the way that they were born. Comic books have always been a reflection and retelling of stories in the real world. I can tell that you don't read comic books. Why can't comic book good guys defeat the comic book bad guys? They don't promote homosexuality in the way that you promote God. It's not indoctrination to just write about a gay superhero. Why do they have to indoctrinate kids at every turn? You mean there are no gay children? All of my gay friends used to have crushes on superheros when they were kids. Please visit the wiki for the complete list.
